Everyone can be a leader, but only a select few can become a great leader.

Regardless if one has worked  his way up the corporate ladder or just started his own business, the route to leadership is never an easy one. You will encounter various types of situations and emotions; there will be the good times, stressful ones, and even terrible times.

However, Hon. Okenze Ginger Onwusibe, the Member representing the good and industrious people of Isialangwa North State Constituency at the Abia State House of Assembly, has proven beyond every reasonable doubt that he is a  great leader via his doggedness, administrative acumen and leadership prowess in changing the narratives for the better and placing Isialangwa North on the global map of socio economic development.

Since Okenze Ginger Onwusibe (ONWA) was sworn in 2019 to represent Ndi Isialangwa North at the State House, there has been an unstoppable zeal in transforming and bringing  the dividends of democracy down to the grassroots.

Okenze’s outstanding achievements are unparalleled and scattered in every nook and cranny of his Isialangwa North LGA. His achievements within this short period is visible to the blind and audible to the deaf. Little wonder he’s so endeared to his people as his praises are always on their lips.

For the records, it’s very pertinent that i state equivocally clear some of the  leadership qualities that have so far distinguished Okenze Ginger Onwusibe from other legislators.

HONESTY

One of the leadership qualities that defines Hon. Ginger Onwusibe as a good leader is honesty. He is honest, responsible and  straightforward.

According to John C. Maxwell, “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way”. Onwa, having the understanding that his constituents are a reflection of himself, made  honesty and ethical behaviour his key value, thereby leading by example.

DELEGATE

Regardless of his political position and social status, Hon. Onwusibe remembers that he can’t do everything on  his own. Good leaders recognise that delegation does more than simply passing the task to someone else. It is trusting and believing that your employees are able to handle the task given to them.

By delegating to others, Agbalanze has shown that he has confidence in their abilities, and this can result in a positive morale in the structure. One’s employees wants to feel appreciated and trusted. So by giving them a task, they would generally feel honoured that they got selected and they would feel the importance of having them around.

COMMUNICATION

Communication is the key to success, says everyone. Without good  communication, your employees will have trouble to understand your mission, goals, and vision.

It was Nelson Mandela who  in one of his speeches said, “It is better to lead from behind and put others in front, especially when you celebrate victory when nice things occur. You take the front line when there is danger. Then people will appreciate your leadership.”

Okenze Onwusibe understands that good communication is a leadership attribute, little wonder he’s always at home with his constituents, paying rapt attention to their yearnings, reasoning and proffering possible solutions to their challenges.

He equally understands that good communication should be consistent hence the forthcoming ISIALANGWA CONSTITUENCY BRIEFING by  Rt. Hon. Darlington Nwokocha and Okenze Ginger Onwusibe to ISIALANGWA PEOPLE LIVING IN LAGOS STATE under the distinguished chairmanship of Sam Onwukwe on the 17th of April, 2021 by 4pm at the Golden Gate Hotel and Restaurant.

CONFIDENCE

Hon. Chief Ginger Onwusibe is one man that exudes so much confidence not just on himself but his constituents.

As a leader, the state Lawmaker tries to maintain his constituents morale, keep  their confidence level up and assure everyone that setbacks are being looked into.

COMMITMENT

Nothing shows commitment like getting your hands dirty with the rest of the crew. There is no greater motivation than seeing a great leader like ONWA working alongside everyone else.

Hon. Onwusibe’s  commitment sets the example for others to follow and leads to greater loyalty and respect for him as a leader. He sets the tone of commitment, and others  follow suit.

POSITIVE ATTITUDE

Onwa understands and treats his workers cum constituents as equals and human beings. His positive attitude towards his workers and constituents are second to non.

Peter Duckner once said that, “Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things.”

CREATIVITY

As a good leader, Okenze Ginger thinks outside the box when issues affecting his constituency arises knowing fully well that they’re looking up to him for answers and solutions.

He’s always in the habit of  gathering/holding meetings with his constituents to brainstorm on ideas that will aid in uplifting and positioning the LGA on the part of greatness.

INSPIRE

Another quality that defines a good leader is being inspiring. Gin, as he’s fondly called by his peers always  inspire his people to focus on  his vision and goals, keep their spirits up, as well as  appreciate them for their  hard work and encourage them once in a while.

EMPATHY

Having empathy as a leader goes a long way. Empathy is the ability to understand or feel what other people are experiencing. In other words, Chief Ginger puts himself in other people’s shoe. Instead of making things personal when he encounters  problems, or assigning blame to individuals, he looks for constructive solutions and focus on moving forward.

ACCOUNTABILITY

Onwa takes responsibility for everyone’s performance.  When things are going or done well, he commends his hardworking people.  However when problems arise, he swiftly identify them, seek solutions, and get everything back on track.

ENTHUSIASTIC

Okenze Onwusibe is very  enthusiastic about his legislative duties. He’s  passion and dedication has made his constituents respond openly to him.

Although the responsibilities and roles of a leader may be different, the leader needs to be seen to be part of the team working towards the goal. This kind of leader will not be afraid to roll up their sleeves and get dirty.

FOCUS AND DRIVE

Gin is focused and has the ability to think rationally. Not only does he view a situation as a whole, but is able to narrow down the cause as well as find a solution to the problem.

Theodore Roosevelt once opined that, “People ask the difference between a leader and a boss. The leader leads, and the boss drives.”

RESPONSIBLE

The last quality that defines a good leader is being responsible. Great leaders know that when it comes to their company or workplace, they need to take personal responsibility for failure.

A good leader does not make excuses; they take the blame regardless and then work out how to fix the problem as soon as possible. Responsibility is definitely a key leadership attribute.

These qualities are the foundation of a good leadership. While some of these leadership qualities may be more naturally present in the personality of a leader, it is definitely something you can develop and strengthen over time.
