Over 500 Abia children today on Saturday took part in the second Edition of the De Imperial philanthropic family scholarship examination held at Ibeku High School in Umuahia.

The examination centre had children drawn from both public and private schools across the 17 Local Government Areas of the Abia state.

The team leader of the Best Brain Contest handling the examination for the De Imperial philanthropic family, Mr Eric Nnaemeka Orji, said that the scholarship is for students from JSS 1, pointing out that those who emerge successfully at the examination will enjoy the Scholarship up to Senior Secondary School level.

According to Mr Orji, 50 students are expected to benefit from the second edition of the scholarship in Abia state.

He explained that over 50 students who did well in the first edition of the examination are already enjoying the scholarship courtesy of De imperial philanthropic family.

Mr Orji noted that the De Imperial philanthropic family comprises of individuals from the South Eastern states whose visions are to support the development of education as well as provide access to education for the underprivileged ones, in support of government efforts.

Also speaking, the coordinator for the Scholarship examination in the state, Dr James Obioma Nelson, explained that the scholarship program is targeting at alleviating poverty through education, explaining that the scholarship program is also happening at Imo, Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi states.

He described the large turn out of students in Abia for the scholarship examination, as a clear evidence that the scholarship has come to bring socur to parents in view of the economic hardship in the country, where some families cannot access education any more.

In their reactions, some of the parents including Sir Charles Iroha and Mrs Oluchi Uduma described the gesture of De Imperial philanthropic family as a relieve to many families and commended De Imperial philanthropic family for touching the lives of the children positively through the scholarship.

In an interview, some of the students including Kelechi loveday, Chukwu Nnaomah, Blessed Iwuagwu and Nwachukwu Treasurer, prayed for their success in the scholarship examination which according to them will compliment the efforts of their parents in providing them access to education.
