NEW MINIMUM WAGE: Abia To Commence Payment By October

Abia State Government says it will commence the implementation of the New Minimum
Wage for workers in the state civil service by October, 2024.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu disclosed this on Monday, while briefing Journalists on the outcome of this week’s Executive Council Meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
Prince Kanu emphasized that the gesture which is in fulfillment of the Governor’s promise, underscores the state government’s commitment to the welfare of Abia workers.
“Barring any unforseen circumstances, Abia State Government will commence the payment of minimum wage to it’s workers from the month of October 2024.
“This in part is to underscore the governments commitment to the welfare of Abia workers and in fulfillment of the promise of his Excellency, the executive governor of Abia State,Dr Alex Otti to Abia workers.
“The payment of this minimum wage is in line with the broader agenda of the Federal government and has been designed to cut across all categories of workers”, the Commissioner stated.
The Commissioner also announced that the State Government in it’s bid to strengthen the administration of Justice in the state, would perform the flag off of the construction of 17 new court halls across the 17 LGAs of the state.
“This is another milestone achievement by the state government that is geared towards ensuring that the process of administration of justice is not impeded in any way in the state”, Prince noted.
According to the Commissioner, the wife of the Governor Mrs Priscilla Otti will on Wednesday this week flag off the free medical outreach at the newly commissioned SDG Multipurpose Hospital, Ugwunagbo which will feature consultation Services, maternal/Child Health Care Services,free Diagnostic and minor surgeries.
Prince Kanu said the outreach will also feature the enrollment of Women, Children and the Elderly into the Abia State Health Insurance Scheme.
