The Abia State Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Maureen Chilaka has confirmed the death of a police Inspector, Mr. Shehu Oyibo and three civilians identified as, Chika Godliveth, Onyenaturuchi Jonah from item in Bende Local Government Area and Eniobong Clement from Akwa Ibom state.

According to the report, the inspector and the civilians were gunned down during an exchange of fire between a gang of assailants and operatives of the state police command, attached to the Rapid Response Squad along Ngwa road by mosque junction, Aba who were on patrol.

The report has it that the gun men who were in an ash-colour sienna vehicle opened fire on the police personnel who repelled the attack, preventing what would have been a blood birth in the area.

She further said that the remains of the deceased persons have been deposited at the mortuary.

She said that investigation into the incident had commenced toward arresting the fleeing hoodlums.

The PPRO assured the public of their safety, urging them to go about their lawful activities without fear.

She said that operatives of the command had been deployed to strategic locations in the state to ensure the protection of lives and property.

“Abians are also urged to report any suspicious movements or individuals with bullet injuries to the nearest police station,” she added.
