Just In: Hon. Asiforo Okere Emerges Abia State PDP Chairman

A former speaker Abia House of Assembly Mr Asiforo Okere has been declared the winner of the PDP Chairmanship position for Abia State having polled a total of two thousand one hundred and five votes out of the two thousand one hundred fifty one votes cast.

Announcing the results of the PDP State Congress conducted at the Umuahia Township Stadium, the chairman Abia State Congress committee, Mr Kenneth Okon said that Mr Asiforo Okere having polled the highest number of votes cast is returned elected.

Speaking after the exercise, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu commended the the committee for a well organized Congress, adding that the event would have been a complete joyous one if not for the death of the immediate past Chairman of the Party, late Sir Johnson Onuigbo,Late Chief Solomon Ogunji, Chief Allen Nwachukwu and other prominent Abians. 

Governor  Ikpeazu while congratulating the newly elected Executives of the Party, reminded them that Abia is a PDP State and that they should ensure that the party continues to grow in lips and bounds. 

The Governor charged the new party executive to immediately swing into action as the party is working towards a resounding victory at the National level come 2023,describing the PDP as the only hope of redemption for Nigerians.

Speaking, the National Organising secretary, Col. Austine Akobundu retired said PDP has remained peaceful without rancour  and acrimony and hoped that the new executives will take the party to an enviable height. 

In his speech,the Acting Chairman Abia state PDP Caretaker Committee Chief P. C. Onyegbu recalled that the party in the state has been in unity and peaceful and expressed the hope that the new Exco will continue in the trajectory as championed by the immediate past state chairman Sir Johnson Onuigbo. 

The caretaker committee of the party was formally dissolveed by the legal Adviser of the party Mr Omenihu while A minute silence was observed in honour of the immediate past State chairman of the Party Sir Johnson Onuigbo and others who died recently.

Other State officers that emerged are Mr Obinna Nwachukwu Deputy chairman, Chief Amah Abraham Zonal chairman Abia North, Mr Chukwu Ezebuiro Zonal chairman Abia Central, Chief David Chigbu Zonal chairman Abia Central and Mr David Iro State Secretary. 

Others include,  Prince Ben Okezie State Treasurer , Chinyere Onuoha State financial secretary,Mr Dan Nkeiru State legal Adviser,  Chief Fabian Nwankwo State publicity secretary, Mr Gabriel Okereke Elendu state Auditor, Chief Victor Obere State Organising Secretary, Lolo Christy Emenike State woman leader and Chief Patrick Onwuka, State Youth Leader.

The event which attracted many party faithful including the Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Okochukwu, the Speaker Abia House of Assembly, Chief Chinedum Orji, members of the national and State Assembly, Local Government party executive among others.
