The Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie lkpeazu has expressed his administration’s drive to continue to empower more women across the State to enable them excel in all spheres of life which include political appointments and elective positions.
Dr. Ikpeazu who said this during the 5th Thanksgiving Anniversary and Empowerment Programme of the Okezuo Abia Organization, Umuahia South LGA women’s wing prayer meeting, held at council headquarters, Apumiri , Ubakala noted that the Government having recognised the numerical strength and support of the womenfolk in the State, will carry them along in the scheme of things and give them a sense of belonging.
The Governor represented by his Deputy Sir Ude Oko Chukwu said he was overwhelmed by the large number of Okezuo Abia women at the prayer meeting, set aside to thank God for His protection over Abians and the state against all odds and appreciated the organizers for the noble venture of empowering their women through the fellowship and love gathering.
In his remarks, the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Chris Ezem who thanked the women for being consistent in their support for the Gov. Ikpeazu’s administration and the Okezuo Abia Organization, assured that Government is doing it’s best to empower women in the State.
He implored them to expand their political evengelism to win more grounds for PDP in the local Government area and beyond.
While listing factors meditating against women’s full participation and success in politics, the Director General Abia Women Mobilization and Development, Chief Mrs Nnenne Obewu Onwuka, advised the party to support credible and reliable women that delivered on their mandate. She called for more elective and appointments for the women in the State.
In their remarks, the Coordinator, Umuahia South LGA, Okezuo Abia Organization, Mr. Kelechi Aguiyi and the woman leader and Education Secretary, Umuahia South LGEA, Mrs Comfort Ihechiluru Nwosu said they have through the prayer meetings empowered about 400 women.
They said they have touched lives in various ways through payment of bills and disclosed that the 5th year anniversary was to thank God for keeping them alive for the past years, while thanking Governor for appointing their leaders into positions of trust in his Government.
Earlier in a brief sermon, titled, “More than conqueror with a grateful heart, Pastor Ibe Nwachi said it is only God that has been fighting the battles of the leadership of the State as they tackle the issue of delivery good governance across the State as well as seeing Abians through the challenges that came with 2020.
The event which saw the presentation of enablement items to the women, also featured special prayers for continuing blessings, divine protection and grace on the leadership in the State.
