CENSUS: Abia Government To Partner NPC For Credible Census Exercise

 

Abia State Government has reiterated it’s  determination to partner NPC for credible census exercise in the state.

The Chief of Staff to Abia State Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba has identified the collation of reliable data on population as a key requirement for effective national planning and development.

Pastor Ajagba who disclosed this at Government House Umuahia when he received the management of the National Population Commission, Abia State office, noted that no nation can meet up with their obligations without credible data derived from the population.

 

The Chief of Staff to the Governor while describing census as an important component of development, said the Dr Alex Otti led administration in the state is passionate and fully committed to giving Abians the best of governance in line with his vision of making the state number one in the comity of states.

He further stressed the need for the commission to adopt technology in their enumeration and data gathering in other to provide a population-related statistics that will help in national planning and development and assured them of government’s support.

Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr Ngozi Azodoh, the Director General of Abia State Agency for the Control of Aids, Dr Uloaku Ukaegbu and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Labour Matters, Sir Godson Anucha made case for stronger synergy between the commission and the state Ministry of Health in the areas of undertaking adequate demographic data, compiling, and publishing civil registration statistics in line with the nation’s population policy.

In her address, the State Director, National Population Census, Lady Juliana Ezebuiro commended Governor Otti for his developmental strides across the state and for appointing a seasoned administrator, Pastor Caleb Ajagba as his Chief of Staff, and disclosed that her commission is saddled with the responsibility of overseeing data and statistical gathering and analysis for developmental and economic purposes.

Also speaking, a Director in the commission, Mr Uduma Ukpai Kalu said the commission has put in adequate machineries in place and solicited for governments support to enable them conduct a free, fair and credible census in the state.

Some top government officials were present during the meeting.
