Gov Otti Prioritizes Innovation-Driven Civil Service for a 21st Century Abia State
Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has outlined his vision for a forward-thinking civil service powered by innovation and technology, ensuring it meets the demands of the 21st century.
Speaking during a visit by a delegation from the British High Commission to Nigeria, led by the British High Commissioner, Dr. Richard Montgomery, Governor, Otti emphasized the importance of preparing Abia’s workforce for the future.
Governor Otti expressed his appreciation for the British High Commission’s role in enhancing the digital skills of over 500 Abia civil servants, underscoring the state’s commitment to fostering a tech-savvy and innovative public sector.
“We want a civil service that is ready for the future, ready for technology, and ready for innovation,” he stated.
Highlighting his administration’s efforts over the past 14 months, Governor Otti noted that Abia’s business environment has been significantly improved through strategic initiatives, including the provision of essential infrastructure like power, roads, and security.
“We came prepared with solutions and strategies. For us, governance is about the welfare and happiness of the people, which is why we actively support the private sector,” he explained.
The Governor also revealed plans for regional integration among South East Governors, aimed at fostering overall development and promoting trade through a proposed regional rail network.
In his response, Dr. Richard Montgomery commended the advancements in resource management, digital compliance, and infrastructure development achieved under Governor Otti’s leadership. He assured continued collaboration with Abia State in key areas such as trade, energy, transportation, technology, and manufacturing to drive job creation.
The event was attended by key government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Kenneth Kalu, the Head of Service, Dr Mrs Ngozi Queen Obioma, Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Mr Matthew Ekwuribe and recent graduates of the digital training program.
