Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti has commended the West African Examination Council (WAEC) for being resolute in making sure that Abia continues to stand out in the areas of academic excellence.

Governor Otti who gave the commendation at Government House Umuahia, when he received a delegation from WAEC, Abia State Branch led by the Branch Controller, Mrs Mary Chima, lauded them for their sustained commitment in adding value to the educational goals of its stakeholders.

The Governor represented by his Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba while expressing joy that Abia today remains one of the foremost states recording impressive results, explained that what happened on the 30th of May if not well handled would have truncated the hopes of Abia youths especially students that sat for mathematics examination.

The State Chief Executive charged the examination board not to relent in providing qualitative and reliable educational assessment, assured them of his administration’s support to enable them to keep promoting sustainable human resources development, mutual understanding and international cooperation.

In her address, the State Branch Controller of WAEC, Mrs Mary Chima disclosed that they came to thank Governor Otti for his unwaivering support and security provided to the board during the administration of the mathematics examination on May 30th.

Mrs Chima while applauding the Governor for his act of courage and encouragement to education which has not only safeguarded the future of Abia students but also upheld the integrity of the educational system by ensuring that the examinations proceeded smoothly and safely despite the threats by IPOB that no exams should be written on that day.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Trade, Commerce and Industry, Chief Nwaka Inem among other top government officials were present during the thank-you-visit.
