Gov Otti Commends Abia Born Chairman, United Nations Committee For Persons With Disabilities In Africa
The Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has commended the Abia born President of the West African Association for the Blind, Ambassador Dr. Chris Nwanoro, on his election as the Chairman of the United Nations Committee for Persons With Disabilities in Africa.
Governor Otti made the commendation during the Iri-Ji festival and grand civic reception held at the Umuobiala Civic Centre Complex in Umuobiala, Isuikwuato LGA organized by the Umuobiala Development Union in honor of their son, Amb. Dr. Nwanoro.
The Governor represented by Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, lauded Dr Nwanoro for his focus and determination, noting that the global recognition is a testament that there is no disability in anyone who has a clear vision of where he or she is headed. According to him, Dr Nwanoro has once again demonstrated that the worst form of disability is the disability of the mind and not physical disability.
The State Chief Executive emphasized that his administration is dedicated to creating an enabling environment for all Abians irrespective of circumstances of birth, parental background, LGA of origin or level of social dislocation to excel in life. According to him, the state is being rebuilt as a land of limitless opportunities for every Abian to experience a new era of prosperity through a well coordinated development agenda for the rural areas.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of the occasion, Chief Raymond Nkemdirim applauded Governor Otti for his developmental strides across the state especially in Isuikwuato as well as for appointing indigenes of the LGA into key positions in his administration.
In their remarks, the former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika (RTD) and the President General of Umuobiala Development Union, Chief Peter Onozie, commended Amb. Dr. Chris Nwanoro for making Isuikwuato, Abia, and the entire nation proud and prayed for God’s continued guidance and wisdom in his new assignment.
In his speech, the newly elected Chairman of the United Nations Committee for Persons With Disabilities in Africa, Amb. Dr. Chris Nwanoro frowned at the continuous neglect of Persons With Disabilities, emphasizing that such neglect results in a significant loss of potential contributions from that vital segment of human resources.
Amb. Dr. Nwanoro further disclosed that the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons With Disabilities is fully committed to ensuring that PWDs fully participate in society.
The event which featured the Iwa-Ji ceremony performed by Ndi-Eze Umuobiala, induction of Amb. Dr. Chris Nwanoro and others into the Umuobiala Hall of Fame, presentation of merit awards, traditional dances, and goodwill messages also attracted the presence of the Chairman, Abia State Commission for the Welfare of Disabled Persons and Special Assistant to the Governor on Persons With Disabilities, Mr. David Anyaele, captains of industry, traditional rulers, clergy, among other notable personalities.
