The Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has renewed his calls for well to do Abians to assist government in the empowerment and employment creation of Abia youths.
Dr Ikpeazu who made the call while flagging off a youth empowerment training on digital and leadership skills organised by UNUBIKO FOUNDATION in Umuahia said that his government is happy to be part of the empowerment program and commended the founder of UNUBIKO FOUNDATION, Mr. James Ume, an Abian for what he has been doing.
The Governor represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr A.C.B Agbazuere who recalled that Mr Ume gave out 100 bags of rice and 200 cartons of noodles to journalists in the State as Covid-19 palliatives few months ago stressed the need for Abians not to wait for government alone to do everything, also called on other well-to-do Abians from all walks of life to emulate the philanthropic gestures and sterling qualities of Mr James Ume by bringing their wealth back home and supporting their brothers and sisters.
The Governor further reiterated that what Mr Ume is doing is in tandem with the State government’s policy directive in education, pointing out that the Education for Employment (E4E) program of the State government is targetd at the youths, urging the youths to work hard to achieve their set goals in life as well as the beneficiaries to take the training seriously.
Earlier in his speech, the representative of Mr James Ume and Coordinator, Unubiko Foundation, Dr Benjamin Isani and the Managing Partner of DERASOFT Consulting Abuja, Mr Young Uzoegwu disclosed that the six weeks program is aimed at equipping youths to compete favourably in the digital world, adding that 20 successful candidates will be given a laptop computer each as part of their training tools.
Responding, some of the beneficiaries including Mr Ikenna Balogu, Miss Favour Onwubuiko, Mr Uche Ume among others appreciated the founder of Unubiko Foundation, Mr James Ume for his numerous philanthropic gestures as well as having the interest of Abia youths at heart promised to take the training seriously.
Crystal News Correspondent reports that the event which attracted top government officials featured the presentation of brand new HP laptops to the 20 shortlisted youths by the Foundation.
