FG PALLIATIVES: What Accrues To Abians Will Get To Them Irrespective Of Party Affiliations – Gov Otti
Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti says his administration will continue to ensure that what accrues to Abians gets to them irrespective of their ethnic, religious and political affiliations.
Governor Otti stated this at Government House Umuahia, when he received the State Operations Committee on Grain Palliative led by the Mayor of Obingwa LGA, Dr Eric Egwuibe, who came to brief him on the arrival of assorted food commodities from the FG to the state.
The Governor represented by his Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to transparency in managing all aids received from the federal government through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), promised to ensure fair and equitable distribution of the palliatives to the right end users in the state.
The State Chief Executive disclosed that the state government will take a comprehensive inventory of the received items to ensure transparency and accountability throughout the distribution process in order to give accurate account to the Federal Government through NEMA, and commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for showing commitment and diligence in identifying with the needs and expectations of Nigerians.
He also commended the committee members for their untiring efforts in the management of the palliatives right from the National Strategic Reserve down to the state, adding that the palliatives are in line with his vision of catering for Abians considering the current economic situation.
In his address, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Policy and Intervention, the Reverend Father Christian Anokwuru, while giving a breakdown of the palliatives, said a total of 13,260 bags of 50kg maize representing 663 metric tonnes and 3,196 bags of 25kg garri representing 79.9 metric tonnes have been successfully received and warehoused at the Ministry of Agriculture for onward distribution.
Also speaking, the Mayor of Obingwa LGA and Chairman of the Committee, Dr Eric Egwuibe thanked the Governor for providing the necessary logistics and assured him of a seamless and transparent distribution of the palliatives in line with the federal government’s directives.
The meeting featured the official handover of the palliatives to the state government by NEMA officials, signing of the handover certificate by the Governor’s representative while the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Prof. Monica Ironkwe, representatives of the Abia State Emergency Management Agency SEMA, EFCC, DSS, ICPC among others were on ground to monitor the distribution process in line with FG’s directives.
