BREAKING: Opara Sues Tinubu To Court Over Egbetokun’s IGP Tenure
An Abuja-based lawyer and human rights activist, Barr. Maxwell Opara, has filed a lawsuit against President Bola Tinubu, alleging the extension of Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Kayode Egbetokun’s tenure.
Opara has petitioned the Federal High Court in Abuja to prevent Egbetokun from presenting himself as the IGP.
Opara contends that Egbetokun, having turned 60 on September 4, 2024, should no longer hold the position.
In response to the IGP tenure controversy, Force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi clarified that Tinubu did not extend Egbetokun’s term.
Instead, the President approved the law governing the office’s tenure.
Opara argues that a position terminated by law cannot be reinstated through a subsequent amendment.
No hearing date has been set for the case.
