The Member representing Isiala Ngwa North State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Chief Collins Ugochukwu Iheonunekwu has called on women in Isiala Ngwa North LGA to use their annual August Women Conference to deliberate on ways of eliminating obnoxious and harmful practices against women.
Hon. Iheonunekwu who made the call at Obikabia Primary School in Isiala Ngwa North LGA during the Maiden August Meeting cum ₦50 million Civic Hall fund raising of Obikabia Amato Women Association, enjoined them to use the window of opportunity created by the conference to educate themselves on ways that would improve their standard of living and promote gender issues in the society.
Ochake while congratulating the women for organizing the event, also harped on the need for them to shift their focus from yearly jamboree and showoffs to community development projects and empowerment initiatives that can turn around their lives.
Declaring the event open, the Chairman on the occasion, Mr Alozie Iheanyi Ahukanna USA tasked Obikabia women to use the period of their annual August meeting to acquire self-improvement skills and access to better lives as well as develop interest in emerging issues that have direct bearing on their wellbeing.
In her welcome address earlier, the President General of Obikabia Amato Women Association, Mrs Eucharia Emere while thanking Hon. Chief Collins Ugochukwu Iheonunekwu and all that graced the occasion disclosed that their annual August Meeting apart from being an instrument for rural development also affords them the opportunity to discuss matters about community development, Conflict Management, human development among other socio-economic and cultural initiatives.
