ABIA: Traditional Rulers To Partner Government And Military To Fish Out Killers Of Army Officers

 

 

Traditional rulers in Abia State particularly those in Obingwa LGA have been charged to partner with the state government and the Military to fish out killers of the Army officers at Obikabia junction, last week Thursday.

The Chief of Staff to Abia State Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba who gave the charge during a security and peace meeting convened by the Mayor of Obingwa LGA, Dr Eric Egwuibe at Mgboko, the LGA council headquarters said that the administration of Governor Alex Otti has demonstrated commitment to assist the military apprehend those involved.

Pastor Ajagba said it is a condemnable act adding that information from the grassroot will give quicker results to the matter which already has a bounty for any informant.

In his speech, the Commanding Officer, Nigeria Army 144 Battalion, Major Hassan Biu described the meeting as apt towards restoring peace and stability in the commercial city and urged the traditional rulers to assist the Military with any information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators assuring that their identities will be protected.

He also urged the citizens not to panic in sighting military van pointing out that many of those arrested since the incident have been released while some in their custody are still undergoing investigations.

Speaking, the Mayor of Obingwa LGA, Dr Eric Egwuibe who is the convener, said the essence of the meeting is to involve the traditional rulers who are part of government in the search of the criminals and to protect the innocent ones.

Dr Egwuibe who commiserated with the military over the ugly incident regretted that three out of the slain soliders were Abians while assuring them of full collaboration for sustainable peace in the state.

Speaking, the Chairman of Obingwa traditional rulers council, Eze Adolphus Abakwue and other stakeholders including Eze O. J. Ananaba of Umuokohia Community and Eze Chinyere Nwachukwu of Ndiakata Community condemned the dastardly act and reiterated their commitment to tackle insecurity in their domains.

Crystal News correspondent reports that representatives of the Umuobiakwa Police Division, his Ohuru Isi mmiri counterpart, Divisional Officer of the Civil Defence, the DSS, Homeland Security and the State Community Policing and Vigilante among other political officers of the Council were also present while a minute silence was observed in honor of the slain soldiers.
