Abia State Government Demolishes Criminal Hideouts In Aba

The Abia State government has demolished shanties and bunks used as hideouts by criminals around Waterside area of Aba North L.G.A to terrorize the city and its environs. 

Speaking at the demolition site, the Chief of Staff to the Abia State Governor, Dr. A.C.B  Agbazuere accompanied by the State Commissioner of Police, Mrs Janeth Agbede, the Acting T.C Chairman of Aba North L.G.A, Mrs Joy Iwuchukwu and a combined team of security personnels in the state said government decided to demolish the shanties because they serve as hideouts for criminals  who sale cocaine and other illicit drugs and perpetrate various crimes. 

Dr Agbazuere reiterated that the State government is committed to the safety of lives and property of the citizenry, adding that the principle responsibility of any government is to protect lives and property.

The Chief of Staff to the Governor maintained that  government would not fold its arms and watch criminal elements perpetrate crime and threaten the security of the State, also warned criminals who use the Waterside area as hideout to vacate the area and turn a new leaf as well as landlords in the State who harbour armed robbers, kidnappers and hard drug dealers will have their houses demolished while themselves will be prosecuted. 

He further commended the state Commissioner of Police, his officers and men and other security men in the State for being committed to their duties and urged Abia people and residents to feel safe.

Speaking on behalf of the  security agencies present during the exercise, the State Commissioner of Police, Mrs  Janeth Agbede reassured Abians that the security agencies are committed to providing excellent security to the people of the State and called on criminal elements using the Waterside area as hideouts to perpetrate crime to vacate the area immediately or face the full weight of the law. 

Correspondent Ugochukwu Ahuchogu reports that the  exercise featured the total  demolition of all the shanties and illegal structures around  waterside axis used as hideouts by the criminals as well as leveling of the area for better surveillance of the areas.
