ABIA – The Ohafia Command of the Abia State Community Policing/Vigilante ACPV has been inaugurated in the state with a charge on the officers to always exhibit high level of professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

The Mayor of Ohafia LGA, Chief David Ogba Onuoha who gave the charge shortly after the inauguration held at the Ohafia LGA Council Headquarters, described security as a serious business and one that requires great focus, dedication and commitment.

Chief Ogba Onuoha while noting that the inauguration of the command is timely and necessary, regretted that security challenges faced by the people have become more complex ranging from criminal activities to communal conflicts based on changing economic wellbeing of the people and changing developmental challenges of the present time.

The Ohafia LGA Mayor explained that community policing is not about law enforcement alone but about building trust, fostering partnership and ensuring members of the community feel safe and valid, taking preventative actions to protect life and property before incident escalates.

He expressed optimism that the inauguration of the Ohafia command will create a structure that is rooted in the values, traditions and concerns of the people while ensuring professional standard of policing and Vigilante.

Chief David Ogba Onuoha further commended Governor Alex Otti, traditional rulers and all stakeholders who contributed in making the event a reality as well as appreciated the newly inaugurated officers for their willingness to serve.

In his address, the State Commander, Abia State Community Policing/Vigilante, Apostle Daniel Iheadindueme described the outfit as the umbrella body of Community Vigilante Groups located in all the autonomous communities across the 17 LGAs, made up of trained personnels/volunteers who were recommended after careful selection by the traditional rulers, stakeholders and palace cabinets from communities in the state.

While stressing the need for the newly inaugurated officers to uphold integrity, deligence and respect for human lives, Apostle Iheadindueme reminded them that their duties are primarily to work hand in glove with other security agencies in preventing crime, securing lives and property, maintenance of law and order, arrest of dissidents, intelligence gathering and dissemination of relevant information to security agencies etc.

 

Also speaking, the State Administrative Secretary, ACPV, Elder Enoch Ajadu solicited the support of government, LGA mayors, traditional rulers, stakeholders and good spirited individuals to enable them discharge their duties effectively.

In their remarks, the representative of 14Brigade Garrison Commander, Nigerian Army Ohafia, Major P.M Asiayei, the chairman of Ohafia LGA traditional rulers council, Eze Arunsi represented by the traditional ruler of Akanu Ukwu Ohafia autonomous community, Eze Evang. Uche Ibe, traditional ruler of Eziafor – Ukwu autonomous community, Eze Oscar Kalu Osonta, their Ukpaghiri Amogudu Abiriba community counterpart, Eze Eme Uguru Ikpoka, Ezeogo Mba Nkuma from Ukwa Nkporo autonomous community and his Ugwuelu Ukwa Nkporo counterpart, Ezeogo Eme Udeagha among others thanked the leadership, officers and men of Abia State Community Policing/Vigilante led by the State Commander, Apostle Daniel Iheadindueme for the good work they are doing and pledged their total support.

In a vote of thanks, the Ohafia LGA Commander, Abia State Community Policing/Vigilante, Mr Edwin Ogbonnaya thanked the leadership of ACPV for finding them worthy to serve and promised that they will work closely with security agencies in ensuring peace, maintenance of law and order and ridding the various communities in ohafia LGA of criminal elements.

Highlight of the event which attracted the presence of security personnels including the Army, DSS, Police, NSCDC, traditional rulers from Ohafia LGA, Ndi Ezeogo’s and stakeholders also featured the official decoration of the Ohafia LGA Commander, goodwill messages among others.

The state commander of Abia State Community Policing/Vigilante, Apostle Daniel Iheadindueme and other top officers of the outfit earlier paid a courtesy visit to the Enachioken Abiriba, Eze Kalu Kalu Ogbu IV and his council members at his royal palace, where he intimated them on the essence of their visit to Ohafia LGA and also got his royal blessings and support.
