ABIA – The State Government has taken steps to ensure quality and standardization of buildings and other developmental projects in Aba.

The Director General, Greater Aba Development Authority, Chief Uche Ukeje who was addressing team of Professionals, especially members of Society of Engineers, Nigeria institute of Architects and Nigeria Institute of Builders in his office, said that the Governor, Dr Alex Otti has mandated them to continuously engage all the Professionals in the sector to forestall future collapse of projects in Aba especially building projects.

Chief Ukeje stated that the meeting was to ensure that the Professionals stick to the ethics of their specialized duties without compromise, adding that the agency has commenced training and retraining of her staff to ensure that the Professionals are ground to checkmate their activities.

He disclosed that the state government through Greater Aba Development Authority has created a building control mechanism to forestall building collapses as experienced in other states due to poor services.

The Director General regretted that the quality of work the building Professionals do have drastically reduced in quality and standard due to their inability to stick to their ethical code of conduct in their building plans.

In their separate reactions, a member Fellow Society of Engineers, Mr Felix Nnabugwu, Chairman Abia State of Nigeria Institute of Builders, Mrs Grace Ukeme, a Fellow Nigeria institute of Architects, Mr Aja Mba thanked the Governor, Dr Alex Otti for using the Director General, Greater Aba Development Authority, Chief Ukeje to end the era of poor quality and substandard work in Aba.

They regretted that so many Professionals do not know proper prospective in building as well as road contracts.

According to them they were trained and groomed under their Professional ethics to do their work, assuring that they will partner the state government through the Greater Aba Development Authority in rendering quality services to the people.
