Abia Government Reclaims Encroached Land At Government College Umuahia, Demolishes Illegal Structures [PICS]
The Abia State Government has begun reclaiming land at Government College Umuahia that was unlawfully occupied, initiating the process by demolishing unauthorized structures.
General Manager of the Umuahia Capital Development Authority (UCDA), Mr. Kingsley Agomoh, emphasized that this action serves as a stern warning to those encroaching on government property.
Mr Agomoh highlighted that the government had legally transferred the land to the Old Boys Association of Government College Umuahia with a Certificate of Occupancy, questioning the legitimacy of land sales by unauthorized parties and urging potential buyers to verify land ownership carefully.
He clarified that occupants were given prior notice before the demolition pointing out that the remaining structures now fall under the jurisdiction of Government College Umuahia.
Mr. Friday Ohaeri, Chairman of Umuana Ndume Ibeku, reiterated that the land in question was originally donated to the government by their ancestors and criticized the encroachers for acting in their own interests rather than representing the Umuana Community.
Eze Justice Chinonyerem Uwaka, the Second National Vice President of the Government College Old Boys Association, recalled that the encroached areas were once part of the college’s farmland. He mentioned that previous attempts to have the illegal occupants vacate were met with claims that the land had been sold by the Umuana community.
Uwaka reaffirmed that the land was handed over to the Old Boys for educational purposes and stated that the recent actions underscore a clear warning to others against illegal land transactions.
