The Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, has commended the Local Government Service Commission for its ongoing staff training efforts under the current administration.

Engr. Emetu gave the commendation in Umuahia while declaring open a 3-day seminar/workshop with the theme, “Local Government Financial Management, Control and Revenue Generation,” organized by the Local Government Service Commission and Samuk Media Life Ventura.

The Deputy Governor described the theme as aligning well with the Government’s commitment to rural development and anti-corruption.

He encouraged adopting accountability and transparency as core principles, reflecting the governor’s mandate for financial managers to be accountable for their actions.

“With ongoing public service reforms, an improved workforce is crucial. The Governor prioritizes training to enhance output and efficiency across state services, including local government.” he said.

He further highlighted the importance of following financial management procedures and regulations to prevent fund misapplication and corruption.

In her speech, a permanent secretary, Princess Ezinne Judith Ngwakwe, emphasized that the seminar/workshop aims to improve service performance and ensure effective financial management, transparency, and accountability.

In her words, “We covered ‘Application of Public Service Rules, Local Government Administration, Fraud Control Techniques, Anti-Corruption,’ among others.”

She encouraged participants to take the topics seriously for their success and the advancement of the local government system amid ongoing reforms.

Highlights of the seminar were paper presentations by various local government resource persons.
