by Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti has charged journalists in the state against de-marketing Abia through uncomplimentary reportage, but rather engage in constructive criticism.
Governor Otti who gave the charge when he received a delegation of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Abia State Council led by the state Chairman, Comrade Victor Ndukwe at Government House Umuahia, enjoined journalists in the state to help create a better society through their various media platforms.
The Governor represented by his Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba while highlighting the role of the media in emerging democracy, noted that the media have the ability in perception management and social re-engineering, adding that he relies on the media to propagate the achievements of his administration and the potentials of the state.
The State Chief Executive also used the forum to highlight some of the achievements of his administration within a short period to include, road constructions and rehabilitations, quality healthcare service delivery, improved educational standard, security, regular payment of abia workers salaries and pensions among others.
He congratulated Comrade Victor Ndukwe for emerging as the State Council Chairman of the Union and assured that his administration would continue to partner the NUJ in their programs and address some of the critical issues affecting the swift operation of the union in the state.
In his address earlier, the state NUJ Chairman, Comrade Victor Ndukwe while highlighting the challenges facing the Abia NUJ and media in the state, appealed to the Governor for continued assistance especially in seeing to the completion of the NUJ state council secretariat.
Contributing, an Ex-Officio, Ezeogo Boniface Okoro who commended Dr Otti on his developmental efforts which are aimed at fast-tracking economic growth across the state, assured him of the union’s support in realizing his administration’s vision for a better Abia.
The visit which attracted the presence of the Director General, Abia State Orientation Agency, Pastor Dike Nwankwo featured the decoration of the Governor’s representative by the executive of the NUJ.
