The Executive Governor of Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has presented staff of office to twenty nine New Traditional Rulers in the State with a charge for them to refrain from Acts inimical to Government policies and development of their Communities.
Speaking after handing over the staff of office to the various Traditional Rulers at the Michael Okpara Auditorium Umuahia, Governor Ikpeazu also charged them to maintain peace and Security in their Communities as well as remain true custodians of the tradition and culture of their people.
The Governor who congratulated the new Traditional Rulers on their positions, tasked them on the protection of government infrastructure in their localities and urged them to continue to sensitize their subjects on the need to abide by the covid 19 protocols as to stay safe.
Governor Ikpeazu used the forum to warn the Traditional Rulers against subversive tendencies that Could drag the Traditional institution to the mud.
Earlier, the State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy affairs, Sir Gabriel Onyendilefu said that the event was in line with the law establishing Traditional institution in the State as the 29 new Traditional Rulers are to replace the vacuum created due to the death of their former Traditional Rulers.
He said that due process were followed in selecting the Traditional Rulers as presented by various Communities and urged them to remain good ambassadors of their Communities.
Contributing, the chairman Abia State council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Ndubuisi Nwabeke said that the new Traditional Rulers have the duty of partnering government in maintaining peace and Security in their Communities and abide by the tenets of the Traditional institution.
Responding, the new Traditional ruler of Ahiabaubi Autonomous Communit, Eze Okezie Amalaha from Isialangwa North L.G.A, the new Traditional ruler of Ikeala Ahiaba in Obingwa L.G. A and a retired staff of NTA, Eze Goddy Njoku noted with delight that their new positions Will empower them to contribute to the overall development of their Communities in addition to maintaining peace and Security in their domain.
The event was graced by the SSG Mr Chris Ezem, Commissioner for information Chief John Okiyi Kalu, Chief of staff to the Governor, Dr A.C.B Agbazuere among other government functionaries and renouned tradititinal Rulers in the State.
