The Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu will today, Thursday, September 17th, 2020 commission the Infectious Diseases Hospital (IDH) Isolation and Treatment Center and the new Molecular Laboratory, all in Aba,Abia State.
A release endorsed by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Onyebuchi Ememanka says the IDH Isolation and Treatment Center is located at the site of the old and long-abandoned Infectious Diseases Hospital, Industry Road Aba.
Built initially by the Colonial Government to manage cases of severe infectious diseases, the place has been abandoned for over thirty years now.
It has now been rebuilt, renovated, and equipped afresh by the Okezie Ikpeazu administration and serves as an Isolation and Treatment Center for Covid-19 in Aba. This will provide the people of Aba and it environs a standard medical facility for those who get infected with the virus.
The brand new Molecular Laboratory for the testing of Covid-19 is located inside the premises of the Aba General Hospital. The structure was built by a coalition of private-sector persons from Abia State while the Abia State Government supplied the equipment. This will complement the laboratories already up and running in Umuahia.
The commissioning of these two facilities today is a further testimony of the commitment of the Ikpeazu administration to the health and welfare of the people of Abia State.
