The Governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has been vaccinated with the Oxford AstraZeneca Covid 19 Vaccine.
Speaking after being vaccinated at Government House Umuahia, Governor Ikpeazu called on the frontline workers to avail themselves of the opportunity to get themselves vaccinated.
The Governor said that the deployment of the deployment of the vaccine to fight Covid 19 is a global decision endorsed by the World Health Organization (WHO) as captured by the NCDC , adding that everyone should must key into the global agenda to stamp out and resist Covid 19 globally.
He prayed that the vaccine would be effective and useful in the collective battle against the virus as to enable the world return to normal.
Answering questions from newsmen the Executive Secretary Abia State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Chinagozi Adindu assured that the vaccine is good and efficacious, revealing that after this first dose, those vaccinated would receive another second short in the next two months.
He disclosed that the quantity will be enough for the frontline health workers, all health workers in the State, both of public and private hospitals, members of the State covid-19 Inter ministerial task force, law enforcement agencies among other frontliners.
Dr. Adindu said the second batch of the vaccine would target the vulnerable and those that have underlining ailments and the elderly, saying that at the end of this year, 40 percent of the Abia populace would have been vaccinated.
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu had earlier received the first batch of covid-19 Vaccine at Government House Umuahia while the SSG Mr Chris Ezem, the Chief of Staff to the Governor Associate Professor ACB Agbazuere, the Commissioner for Health Dr Joe Osuji among other government functionaries witnessed the exercise.
