The President and Vice Chancellor, Clifford University Owerrinta, Prof. Chimezie Omeonu has charged graduating students of the institution to remain good ambassadors of the university anywhere they find themselves.

Prof. Omeonu who gave the charge at the University auditorium, Ihie Campus, during the 5th Convocation Ceremony for the Award of Degrees and Prizes of the university, urged the graduands to embrace the journey ahead with courage, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to their values.

The Vice Chancellor who titled his speech, “The More You Look, The More You See History,” explained that the 5th Convocation Ceremony of the university marks a significant milestone in their lives as it is a moment of celebration, reflection, and anticipation for the future, adding that their experiences have equipped them with not just knowledge, but the ability to adapt and innovate in a rapidly changing world.

“In May 2024, our first set of students sat for the Registered Nurse (RN) Examination of the Nursing and Midwifery Council. The official result is out. While the National average in that examination was 73%, Clifford University scored 81.7%.

“While we were rejoicing over the achievement, the result of the Registered Midwifery (RM) was released by the same Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. Whereas the national average was 91%, Clifford University scored 100%. This is a history and we give all the honour and glory to God,” the Vice Chancellor said.

He appreciated God for his mercies and grace which has seen the university rise from 3 Faculties, 10 Departments, 15 Degree Programmes and 86 pioneer students that matriculated in 2017 to 6 Faculties, 30 Departments, 34 Degree Programmes with about 1,500 students in 2024.

Prof. Omeonu further thanked the university Senate and staff of Clifford University, parents, the Luminaries graduating class and numerous sponsors for their unwaivering commitment and sustained support in making sure the university continues to live up to its core mandate of preparing and developing its students and staff intellectually, occupationally, aesthetically, physically and spiritually.

Declaring open the 5th Convocation Ceremony, the Chancellor of Clifford University Owerrinta, Pastor Dr Gideon Nwogwugwu, reminded the graduands that their degree certificates have been issued to them on trust and can be withdrawn if their character can not defend it.

Dr Nwogwugwu harped on the need for them to eschew acts capable of jeopardizing their future and focus only on developing their God-given talents.

In his welcome address, the Pro Chancellor/Chairman of Governing Council, Clifford University, Owerrinta, Pastor Prof. Bassey Udoh, while welcoming all to the convocation ceremony, reminded the graduands that they have been trained at Clifford University to live a life of purpose and direction.

Pastor Udo enjoined them to pursue only noble dreams, seek fame only in areas that build society and glorify God as well as pursue excellence only in areas that leaves the society better.

Delivering the Convocation Commencement Speech on the topic, “Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Education in Nigeria,”, Engr. Beniah Elemchukwu Ojum, noted that artificial intelligence in Nigeria has the potential to provide a new frontier of economic opportunities, social development, inclusive and sustainable growth.

Engr. Ojum disclosed that our education for the future will to a large extent do away with most of the current approach that is more theoretically based and replace it with progressive and pragmatic forms of education as well as get it in line with what is happening in the developed world.

In his speech on behalf of other graduands, the Luminaries Graduating Class President, Mr Anana Timothy Bulus said the graduation marks the beginning of their journey to greatness and thanked the Vice Chancellor, the Luminaries Graduating Class, their parents and lecturers for molding, rebranding, refining and preparing them for greatness.

In a vote of thanks, the Chairman, Ceremonies and Honours Committee, Dr Ezebunwa Ubani while thanking the university Senate and staff, parents and graduating students for their commitment and support, described Clifford University as the best leading institution that is solely focused on driving the frontiers of knowledge which is anchored on the values of excellence, service and faith.

The 5th Convocation Ceremony of Clifford University Owerrinta which featured presentation of awards and prizes to best performing students and other deserving personalities, goodwill messages from various universities and Jamb, choral renditions also attracted the presence of the academia, parents among other notable personalities.
