The Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Mr Kingsley Nwokocha, says the well-being of traders has everything to do with the development of the state.

Speaking during a meeting with the Chairmen and Secretaries of various markets in the State, the Commissioner highlighted that the smooth functioning of the state’s economy lies on maintaining peace in the markets.

He urged the market leaders to ensure that no one instigates unrest, noting that disruptions would adversely affect the traders, and reminded them that as Government representatives, they must prevent any form of unrest.

The Commissioner reiterated Government’s stand against obstructors of Government policies, stating that such behaviour would not be tolerated.

He called on Market Leaders to strictly avoid illegal transactions, and enjoined them to maintain up-to-date records of occupied and unoccupied shops to ensure proper market regulation.

In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Trade and Commerce, Mrs Magdalene Onwu, also called on Market Executives to be proactive in the collection of revenue in their respective Markets.

She also stressed the need for accurate Financial reporting, that will help improve the internally Generated revenue of the State.
