Gov Otti Inaugurates New Agric Commissioner, Auditor General And ABSIEC Board
The Abia state government has officially sworn in Dr. Cliff Agbaeze, former Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture, as the new Commissioner for Agriculture.
Also inaugurated were Mrs. Ngozi Eke Ogbonnaya as the State Auditor General and the Chairman and members of the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC).
Speaking at the event held at Government House, Umuahia, Governor Alex Otti emphasized that his administration is based on competence, accountability, and responsibility, urging the new appointees to deliver their best.
“To whom much is given, much more is expected,” the Governor stated. “This administration is founded on competence, accountability, and responsibility.”
Governor Otti highlighted the high demands and expectations of their roles, expressing confidence in their ability to excel. He stressed the importance of integrity, noting that their appointments were free from financial influence.
“Our administration has zero tolerance for corruption,” Otti remarked. “You are here to serve the people, not to impress anyone.”
Addressing the ABSIEC Board members, the Governor warned against compromising their integrity, saying it would amount to political suicide.
“You will come under pressure to compromise,” Otti warned. “But the day you do, it’s the day you sign your political death sentence.”
He expressed hope that their experiences would positively impact their roles and reminded them that they are not necessarily the best among their peers but have been chosen to serve.
In their responses, the new Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Cliff Agbaeze and ABSIEC Chairman, Professor George Chima, thanked the Governor for the opportunity to serve and pledged to perform their duties effectively.
They described it as an honor to serve under Nigeria’s top-rated governor and vowed to justify the trust placed in them.
Other members of ABSIEC inaugurated include Dr. Kelechi Okere, Mr. Joseph Akara, Mrs. Ekele Queen Ahuchaogu, Ms. Bertha Ehumadu, Mr. Nkemdirim Kalu, and Secretary Onyemachi Elekwa.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Governor, Chief Ikechukwu Emetu, SSG, Professor Kenneth Kalu, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, Head of Service, Dr. Queen Ngozi Obioma, and other government officials.
