Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti has reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving road safety across the state.
Governor Otti who made this known at Government House Umuahia, when he received the new state Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Corps Commander Fredrick Ogidan, disclosed that his administration has continued to show greater commitment in improving road safety by embarking on massive road construction and rehabilitation in the State
The Governor represented by his Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba while noting that the state government has been in synergy with the FRSC in the state to ensure that road audits are regularly conducted and road infrastructures provided, enjoined FRSC officials to be professional and more civil in dealing with road users and commuters.
The state Chief executive while welcoming the new state sector commander to the state, also used the opportunity to congratulate the management and staff of FRSC on the commendable roles they played in ensuring safety on the roads and reducing road traffic crashes and fatality in the state, assured them of government’s support.
In their speeches, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Navy Commodore MacDonald Ubah (RDT), Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Homeland Security, Fire and Emergency Services, Mr Chukwunenye Alajemba, the Director General, Abia State Orientation Agency, Pastor Dike Nwankwo, lauded the FRSC for being at the forefront of championing the campaign against reckless driving and disobedience to traffic rules, and promised to work hand in glove with them.
In his address earlier, the new state Sector Commander, FRSC, Corps Commander Fredrick Ogidan, charged road users to obey all traffic rules and regulations, limit night travels, avoid speeding, overload, dangerous driving, use of phone while driving, drinking alcohol and driving, pointing out that the need to drive safely and save lives by all drivers and other road users can not be overemphasized.
Commander Ogidan while commending Governor Otti for his developmental strides across the state especially in the area of road construction and reconstruction, disclosed that the essence of his visit is to familiarize with the government of the day to enable them discharge their duties effectively.
The meeting which had government officials and top FRSC officials in attendance, featured the presentation of a plaque to the Governor by the new state Sector Commander.
