by Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti says his administration has set up the necessary structures and frameworks that will help drive quality education effectively across the state.
Governor Otti who stated this when he received in Government House Umuahia, the Management of the West African Examinations Council led by the new Branch Controller, Mrs Mary Chima, reiterated governments commitment to repositioning and upgrading the educational sector in the state.
The Governor represented by his Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba while describing education as one of the key components of reshaping the lives of individuals, disclosed that he came prepared in all sectors to touch lives meaningfully as well as place the state on the path of socio economic developments.
The State Chief Executive noted that his administration as part of measures to reposition the educational sector in the state, has set out remodelling and creation of model schools with conducive learning environment, good infrastructures, adequate laboratories, computers and technological innovations that will help drive the next phase of the total man.
He commended the new branch controller and management of WAEC for the quality job they are doing especially in adopting various innovations to enhance examination process, combat the menace of examination malpractice among others and promised that his administration will partner them to bring about a more enlightened citizenry across the state.
Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Dr Kene Nwosu lauded WAEC for the various innovations they have introduced in recent times in conducting examinations and urged them to sustain the tempo.
In her address earlier, the new WAEC branch controller, Mrs Mary Chima said her office which is an examining body is committed to adding value to the educational goals of it’s stakeholders.
Mrs Chima while commending Governor Otti for his giant strides in the educational sector, resounding victory at the apex court and appointment of an erudite scholar, Prof. Eme Uche Eme as Commissioner for Education, disclosed that the essence of their visit is to introduce the new branch controller as well as strengthen the collaboration between WAEC as an organization and the state government.
