by The Abia State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has inaugurated a 5-man committee charged with the responsibility of tackling unethical behaviours among Journalists in the Council.
Inaugurating the ethics and disciplinary committee at the Abia State secretariat of the NUJ, the State Chairman of NUJ, Abia State Council, Comrade Victor Ndukwe charged the committee to work without fear or favour and ensure that every case reported to it is handled in accordance with their terms of reference.
Comrade Ndukwe while describing journalism as a noble profession practiced by people of sound character, enjoined journalists in Abia State to maintain high level of professionalism in the discharge of their duties, adding that anyone caught in the web of unethical conduct would be sanctioned if found guilty as may be recommended by the disciplinary committee.
In his acceptance speech, the Chairman of the ethics and disciplinary committee, Comrade Emmanuel Ugwu, thanked the State council of NUJ for finding them worthy to serve and assured that his committee would carry out their responsibilities without fear or favour.
Comrade Ugwu further used the medium to urge journalists in the state to maintain high level of professionalism in the discharge of their duties as well as avoid any act that may earn them sanctions.
The committee, which has Comrade Nkechi Nnaemeka Isaac of the BCA chapel as Secretary, was mandated to go after any Journalist who derails from the ethics of the profession in the state and recommend necessary sanctions to be visited upon such defaulters.
They are also to ensure that charlatans are not allowed to parade themselves as journalists in Abia State.
Three other members of the committee were drawn from Unity Federated, Information and National Ambassador Chapels.
